I was given a HF grinder, a real POS; everything wiggled and wobbled, I made new inside and outside washers, changed to USA wheels, dressed the wheels true, and it still vibrates partially due to the motor being out of balance; that combined with work rests and the wheel guards that are made out of material not much stronger than a tin can, have me nearly ...

The point is there is a fairly small contact area with the wheel. The long shaft on the buffer allows large areas or long parts to be moved around the buffing wheel. I would be comfortable putting buffing wheels on a grinder, the only problem would be the limited work area. If that's okay for the type of work you're doing, no problem.

Oct 19, 2016· I know a grinder works but for sharpening end mills and tool bits, would one of these be a good investment? Does the cheaper one work with some tender loving care and tweaks or is the "Made in Taiwan" the best way to buy one? I know those are always the best as compared to the "look a likes" or HF clones.

Generally you want about 5500 FPM for vitreous bonded aluminum oxide grinding wheels. Work the math and you get the RPM for the wheel diameter your grinder is made for. As it happens a 7" grinding wheel is very happy at 3500 RPM. 5500 / dia x 4 = FPM thereabouts.

Nov 26, 2017· Load up the big wet grinders, set the stops (if equipped)and go to another task. But for a lot of the work putting in small geometry on a perforater, core pin, form punch, etc. the scale of the machine (hydraulic) just felt clumsy to work with compared to a 6x12 manual grinder. I like scaling the machine to the work required but that's just me.

Again, this is a work head. Absolutely agreed on a grinder spindle, or to a lesser extent, on powered work head. But this is neither. It's a light duty work head that is turned and locked for indexing flutes for sharpening. A few tenths isn't the end of the world, and for most of us, if a flute is off even 0.001 it's not going to hurt ...
