Transmuting ores in Skyrim can quickly become tedious. The transmute spell will always turn any silver ore into gold ore before changing any iron ore into silver ore. This mod allows you to choose which ore you want to transform by enabling dual casting the transmute spell. Regular casting will now always turn iron ore into silver ore.
Another way to level smithing is to use the Transmute spell to convert all your Iron Ore to Gold Ore, and then craft some jewelry. Really helps if you have the Prowler's Profit perk. That Iron Ore will also be handy in building your Hearthfire home, too, so there's a lesser option. Enchanting hasn't changed much with Dawnguard.
You can also mine ore without talking to a quest giver, and either sell them the ore later or use the ore yourself (e.g., by smelting it). For most ores you are paid its standard base value, with the exception of Iron Ore, for which you receive 7 gold instead of 2 gold.
