Artisanal and Small-Scale Mining is a means of livelihood adopted primarily in rural areas (Veiga, 2003). Minerals are extracted in Artisanal and Small-Scale Mining by people working with simple tools and equipment (Bradshaw et al., 1997). This is sometimes called informal sector, which is outside the legal and regulatory framework (Azubike, 2011).
