everything on a lathe or mill should be dead centered! without play, ok, the play in a headstock thread there is always present, but you can adjust them to an absolute minimum. If a lathe or mill has any play: solve it, or don't use it. In my shop and livingroom is a nice small collection of very old tools wich are nice to look at but hat is all.

Nov 08, 2006· The Micro mill goes down in size from the mini mill. Rather than go micro I would go Sherline or Taig mills. I also have the Sherline and althoughit is a very fine mill for small stuff I find I use my mini mill more. Even with the plastic gears it takes better cuts and can handle larger projets. Still the mini mill is not a Bridgport. Bill

Aug 01, 2017· Depending on your budget you may want to consider the Sherline Mill as well, rather than trying to mill on the lathe. A lot of the tooling will be interchangeable. I have the milling attachment for my Atlas 618 and it is a pain to go thru the set up and it is not nearly as versatile as a dedicated mill.

I have an indexer I made when I used to have some Sherline equipment and have been trying to figure a way to use it on the Taig lathe, but it needed a little modification. I used to use it on a mill, and it was fine for that purpose, but on the lathe with a milling attachment it was a bit too big.
